6800 / 6900 SERIES · COMPACT METRIC BEARINGS

Thin Section Ball Bearings

The 6800 and 6900 series are compact metric thin-section deep-groove ball bearings. Compared with standard 60, 62 and 63 series at a similar bore, they use a smaller outside diameter and radial envelope.

They are selected when compact mechanisms or small housings need less radial space and lower bearing or assembly weight.

The thinner ring section is an envelope choice, not an automatic performance gain; the exact model must balance load capacity, assembled stiffness and sensitivity to fit or distortion.

Dimensions are common boundary dimensions cross-checked between two manufacturer sources. Load and permissible speed are not shown because ratings differ by manufacturer design, closure, lubricant and other configuration details.

Series selection

6800 vs 6900 Series

At the same bore, the 6800 series uses the smaller OD and width. The 6900 series accepts more radial envelope for a stronger load and stiffness balance.

Radial envelopeSmaller OD and thinner radial section at the same bore.Larger OD and width within the thin-section family.
Typical load capabilityLower published rating than the corresponding 6900-size example; confirm the exact construction.More internal section generally allows a higher published rating than the corresponding 6800-size example.
Application fitUse when OD and width are tightly constrained.Use when some additional envelope is available for load and stiffness margin.
Typical products / applicationsCompact motors, encoders, sensors, precision instruments and lightweight mechanisms where minimum OD and width are the priority.Servo and stepper motors, compact gearboxes, automation mechanisms and small machinery where compact size is still required but additional load and stiffness margin is useful.

Quick selection guidance

Choose 6800 when minimum OD and width are the first priority

Use 6800 when the assembly is tightly constrained by housing diameter, surrounding parts or mass target.

Choose 6900 when some additional envelope is available

Use 6900 when compact size is still required, but the application benefits from more section and a stronger load and stiffness balance.

Return to standard 60 / 62 / 63 when duty dominates

Do not force a thin-section solution when the machine can accept a standard deep-groove bearing and needs more margin for load, life or rigidity.

Selection pointThin SectionStandard Deep Groove
Design priorityEnvelope and mass first.Load, stiffness and service margin first.
Ring geometryReduced ring and rolling-element section.More section at the same or nearby bore size.
Assembly requirementMore disciplined seat geometry and support.More tolerant when the surrounding structure has room.
Default choiceUse only when the smaller package solves a real constraint.Prefer when a larger bearing can be accommodated.
Typical products / applicationsCompact motors, encoders, sensors, precision instruments, lightweight gear mechanisms and compact automation assemblies where outside diameter, width or weight are tightly constrained.General electric motors, gearboxes, pumps, fans, conveyors, household appliances and industrial machinery where installation space is less restrictive and higher load or stiffness margin is preferred.

Open

No shield or seal

Provides lower running resistance and direct lubricant access for a clean or externally controlled environment.

  • Lower closure drag
  • Clean or controlled environment
  • Direct lubrication access

ZZ / Metal Shield

Non-contact metal shields

Helps retain grease and exclude larger particles with lower drag than a contacting rubber seal.

  • Particle protection
  • Lower drag than contact rubber seals

2RS / Rubber Seal

Contact or low-contact seals

Improves moisture and contamination protection but adds seal drag; permissible speed can be lower for the sealed construction.

  • Moisture and debris control
  • Improved grease retention
  • Higher closure drag

Model-specific configuration

Available Bearing Configurations

Final bearing selection is not only about d × D × B. Material, clearance, lubrication and noise requirements should also be confirmed for the actual application.

Material

Bearing steel is the common starting option. Stainless steel is available for supported models and corrosion-sensitive applications.

Precision & Clearance

Precision grade is model- and application-specific. Confirm internal clearance such as CN or C3 for the specified fits and operating conditions.

Lubrication

Grease, oil or a special lubricant depends on speed, temperature, service life and environment. Grease fill can be application-specific.

Noise & Vibration

Motor, instrument and precision applications may require noise or vibration screening. Agree the final acceptance requirement for the project.
